Guwahati is situated on the southern bank of the Brahmaputra River in the Kamrup district of Assam. Guwahati, once called Pragjyotishpur ("The City of the Eastern Light"), is a fast-growing urban center and gateway to northeast India. Its name comes from Assamese words "Guwa" (beetlenut) and "Hat" (market).and Shillong, known as the "Scotland of the East." Meghalaya, formed on 21 January 1972 from Assam, has a population of about 3.2 million and an area of 22,429 square kilometers. The state, with its matrilineal system, is the wettest in India, rich in biodiversity and agriculture. Meghalaya's economy is primarily agrarian, with significant forestry, and it serves as a trade hub with Bangladesh.

Guwahati War Cemetery: Established by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission during the war, this cemetery was located in an area that housed multiple military hospitals.It was initially designated as a burial site for those who died within these hospitals. Today, it is the final resting place for 517 casualties.

Barapani (Umiam Lake): Two heavenly sisters traveled to Meghalaya. One arrived, but the other did not. Heartbroken, the first sister cried so much that a lake formed from her tears, called Umiam Lake or Barapani. Today it is a center for water sports like speed boats, sailboats, and water scooters. Next to the lake, Nehru Park features an aviary and a variety of orchids and butterflies.

Nohkalikai Falls: This waterfall is located 4 kms from Cherrapunjee and is between 1500 and 2000 feet tall, making it the fourth longest fall in the world. It has a tragic legend associated with its name. A woman named Ka Likai had an illegitimate child. Her jealous husband killed their daughter, cooked her, and served her to Ka Likai. After discovering the truth, she killed her husband and jumped off the cliff, leading to the waterfall's name, Fall of Ka Likai.
Mawsmai Cave: This 250m long cave is a major tourist attraction in Cherrapunjee, located 6 kms from the town near Mawsmai village. It is a natural limestone cave with many stalagmites and stalactites. The caves are dark inside, and electric torches are provided for tourists' convenience.
Thangkharang Park: Thangkharang Park is located 12 kilometers from Cherrapunjee. This park serves as a habitat for numerous species of orchids and birds. On a clear day, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the plains of Bangladesh, extending up to 180 degrees.

Mawlynnong, a village in North East India, is known for its cleanliness and was named Asia's cleanest village by Discover India magazine. Living Root Bridge: A monumental bridge made of living roots. Living root bridges, tree-shaped structures using ficus plant roots, are common in Meghalaya, India, and handmade by Khasi and Jaiñtia peoples in the Shillong Plateau mountainous region. 75 were discovered in 2017 and found in Nagaland, Indonesia, and Java.
Balancing Rock: A rock that you can see from the road. A balancing rock, also known as balanced rock, precariously balanced rock, or precarious boulder, is a naturally occurring geological formation with a large boulder resting on other rocks, bedrock, or glacial till, with no single scientific definition.

The best time to visit is during the monsoon for stunning scenery, and nature lovers can explore the forests with ferns and bamboo,home home to various butterflies, birds, and orchids.
Wards Lake: Wards Lake, a beautiful spot in Shillong City next to the Governor's Residence, has a horseshoe shape and is a popular gathering place. Created over a century ago by engineer Mr. Pollock, visitors can enjoy boating and peaceful walks along flower-lined paths. An arched bridge provides a great place to feed the fish.
Cathedral Of Mary Help Of Christian: In the picturesque locale of Laitumkhrah lies the largest Cathedral in Meghalaya, a sanctuary that attracts a multitude of devotees. Shillong Golf Course: Celebrated as the Glen-eagle of the East at the prestigious US Golf Association Museum, Shillong Golf Course is nestled in a breathtaking valley, surrounded by towering pine and rhododendron trees at an altitude of 5,200 feet. Initially established as a nine-hole course, it blossomed into a splendid eighteen-hole venue in 1924, a testament to the ingenuity of Captain Jackson and C. K. Rhodes. This remarkable course stands as the third oldest in the rich tapestry of Indian golf history.

Guwahati Zoo: The Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden, also known as the Guwahati Zoo, is a renowned wildlife sanctuary in Guwahati, India. Covering 430 acres in the densely vegetated Hengrabari Forest Area, it is the largest of its kind in the North-East region. The zoo features captivating landscape gardens, a diverse wildlife, and a serene environment, making it an admirer's paradise.
Umananda Island (Peacock Island): Umananda Island, the world's smallest river island, is home to the rare Golden Langurs, a sacred species in the Himalayas. Known as Peacock Island by British colonists, it is believed to be the site where Lord Kamdev was burned to ashes by Lord Shiva's third eye. The island's main attraction is the Umananda Devi Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva.
